Sailing through their first two matches last week, the Canadian girls were humbled Saturday afternoon 23-8 by a determined French side. A Kelly Russell try, along with an Anna Schnell penalty kick, proved the only scoring Canada could muster. Schnell inexplicably failed to convert Russell’s try, and also missed on two penalty attempts.
Canada, seeded fourth at this year’s tournament, will meet Scotland Wednesday, with fifth place on the line. It was against the Scots that Canada started the tournament in fine fashion, winning handily 37-10.
