Woman reports attempted assault

An elderly woman walking on the trail at Johnson’s Beach avoided an attempted sexual assault, in which the assailant appeared to be armed with a handgun, police report.
The women was walking eastbound on the path early Wednesday afternoon and was approached by a man carrying what appeared to be a dark grey or black handgun, police report. He demanded the woman remove her pants, say police. The woman screamed for help and the man turned and ran eastbound towards Shanty Bay.
He is described as white male, about 5’8″, with a slim build, wearing a brown leather coat, a dark hoodie, and dark pants. Police are investigating the incident and officers are canvassing the area.
