Table thrown during domestic: police

A Barrie man is facing assault charges after becoming embroiled in a domestic dispute with his common-law partner, during which he allegedly threw a coffee table towards her, police say.
The man, 26, has been charged with Assault with a Weapon/Assault/Overcoming Resistance to commit Indictable Offence following the incident Sunday night.
Police say they responded to a domestic disturbance in which a woman was reportedly punched numerous times on “the arms and near her eye, after throwing a coffee table towards her.” An argument apparently began over the issue of the accused’s infidelity, police say, and that the “accused became enraged over the fact that he thought the victim had taken his cellular phone.”
Police report that the victim stated her intention to call police using her own phone, “at which point he got her into a choke hold and she was struggling to catch her breath. The accused did successfully obtain her cell phone and then left the apartment.”
Police say the victim used a pay phone to call them. The woman did not require medical attention, but did receive bruising to arms and face, police report. The accused turned himself in and was held pending a bail hearing.
