Police kept busy with downtown calls

The weekend produced the usual flareups for Barrie police, including impaired driving and fights in the downtown core.
On Saturday police took a call from a motorist regarding a suspected impaired driver. The complainant followed the vehicle as it weaved all over the road. The vehicle eventually pulled into the parking lot of a local strip club where police caught up to it.
A 38-year-old male from Springwater Township was arrested and transported to the police station where he blew well over twice the legal limit. He was charged with impaired operation and over 80 and released with a future court date. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, as the downtown bars began to empty out, police responded to numerous reports of fights and intoxicated people in the downtown core.
Between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. police responded to at least 13 incidents in the downtown core, most of which involved intoxicated persons fighting. After breaking up numerous fights, three persons were arrested and charged with offences ranging from public intoxication to causing disturbance and breach of probation. All arrested parties were released when sober and face future court dates.
