Barrie police continue to remind residents that 911 is for emergencies only, a fact some of us are either forgetting or ignoring.
Last Thursday, local 911 operators took 10 calls, one of which turned out to be a legitimate usage – a medical emergency. However, the others were ‘pocket calls,’ misdials, and a call from an child playing with mom’s phone.
Police report receiving more than 100 calls per week, all of which must be responded to by a police followup, including a visit. As such, frivolous and/or mistaken calls chew up valuable resources, police report.
They suggest some vigilance in using 911 is in order to ensure it is used only for its intended purpose.
