Police make social connection

It seems that social media has uses other than keeping in touch and providing the banalities of life. Barrie police have successfully used it to apprehend a male wanted in the damage of an ATM machine, June 2.
About 1:25 in the morning of that date, a money machine at the RBC on Wellington Street was damaged. The suspect, a 19-year-old Barrie man, attempted to get money out of the machine, police say, but was unsuccessful. However, the machine sustained extensive damage, police report.
A security camera at the site captured the suspect’s image, which police posted to social media channels. The man’s mother reportedly saw the picture, after which the suspect turned himself in, say police.
He is facing charges of Mischief over $5,000.
