Police launch ‘zero tolerance’ RIDE

The annual RIDE program is set to kick off Saturday, with checks established throughout the city during the holiday season.
Police will be stationed at all times, night and day, with police officers and auxiliary officers deployed at numerous locations of high-traffic frequency.
Motorists can expect officers at these locations to conduct a zero tolerance for drinking and driving as well as the use of drugs while operating a vehicle. Drivers are reminded that the penalties for operating a vehicle while impaired will result in your immediate arrest, an immediate 90-day license suspension, vehicle impoundment, and a potential long-term license suspension resulting from a criminal conviction.
The Barrie Police Service is reminding residents that if they plan on consuming alcohol, to arrange for an alternative means of transport home, such as a designated driver, a taxi, a designated driver service, or public transit.
