New or old, all the same for police

The new year kicked off in pretty much the same fashion as the one just ended, as police responded to a number of situations, including impaired driving and public intoxication.
Just as the sound of New Year’s Eve revelry was winding down early on Jan. 1, police handled a situation in which a driver, 25, drove his car into a pole on Livingstone Street, near Bayfield Street, and then fleeing the scene, say police.
The driver, who was impaired, say police, was located a short distance from the accident scene, arrested and taken to the RVH for treatment.
In another part of town, around 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, police observed a vehicle proceeding along Veterans Drive before turning onto Maplteon Avenue and into a driveway. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, say police.
Also, in the wee hours of New Year’s Day, police arrested 14 males for being intoxicated. Some were also charged with possession of drugs, causing a disturbance, and two were charged with assaulting police officers.
