Man assaulted in home invasion: police

Barrie police responded to a home invasion early Tuesday morning, in which they say a man, 21, was attacked with a metal pole.
The resident was at home in his basement apartment when two unknown males kicked in his door, police report. They attacked the male and stole a quantity of cash and jewelry.
The victim managed to call for help, police report, alerting the resident upstairs. The suspects fled through a basement window.
Police investigated and recovered evidence at the scene, as well as the weapon used in the assault. The victim did not require medical assistance.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Barrie Police Service Criminal Investigations Division or Crimestoppers.

• Barrie police responded to a 911 call from a citizen who said he/she had witnessed a man grab a woman, throwing her to the ground.
The woman “walked away from her aggressor and the citizen assisted her by taking her into his vehicle,” police report. The woman subsequently told the citizen that it was her husband who had just assaulted her. Around the same time, the alleged assailant walked to where the woman was, before leaving the area in his own vehicle, say police.
Officers picked him up a short distance away and arrested him for Domestic Assault. He was taken into custody and held pending a bail hearing.

• Police kept busy with downtown arrests.
