Forensic unit remains at the scene

The ongoing death investigation, which is being conducted by the Barrie Police Homicide Unit, is continuing. The Barrie Police Forensic Identification Unit is on scene at the residence and will remain at the home until their work is complete.
Yesterday, a forensic post mortem examination was conducted at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS) located in Toronto. The cause of death has been determined and the identity of the deceased has been confirmed. Detectives from the Barrie Police Homicide Unit can confirm that the male victim is 15 years old, however, in accordance with Section 111(1) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), the identity of the victim cannot be released.
The 14-year old youth who has been charged in this ongoing homicide investigation appeared today at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie for a bail hearing and will remain in custody. He is scheduled to appear by video next on March 8, 2019.
As a result of a publication ban issued by the Ontario Court of Justice regarding this incident, no further details surrounding this investigation will be released by the Barrie Police Service.
