Commercial vehicle safety blitz sees 40 per cent failure rate, and 137 charges

The first Annual Barrie Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Blitz resulted in 50 vehicles being taken out of service, and 137 charges being laid.
Barrie police, in conjunction with the OPP, South Simcoe Police Service, Midland Police Service, and the Ministry of Transportation, conducted the operation Wednesday and Thursday, with inspections taking place at the Barrie Molson Centre, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It resulted in a 40 per cent failure rate for vehicles inspected, in regards to compliance with Highway Traffic Act Commercial vehicle’s safety laws.
Police encourage businesses operating commercial vehicles to ensure they are compliant for the road, and to conduct ongoing safety inspections. Operators of commercial vehicles can expected a continued police focus on this, police say.
