Barrie police discover grow-op

A Barrie police investigation into a rash of daytime residential break and enters has led to charges against a number of suspects.
The B&Es took place over the last 10 days in southwest Barrie. After police obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence, suspects were arrested and property seized.
Police also report discovering a marihuana grow-op inside the residence, seizing 102 marihuana plants and 7.7 grams of canabis resin. Further property was also recovered at a second location. A male, 47, is looking at charges for production and possession of marihuana.
Police have charged two young offenders, 14 and 17, with three counts of break and enter and possession of stolen property. As well, the 14 year faces a charge of failing to comply with a court-imposed curfew. They were held for bail and are scheduled for a court appearance in Barrie today (Dec. 15).
In addition to the marihuana and property, officers also located and seized 11 firearms. They were all “properly registered,” but were “seized due to the circumstances in which they were located,” say police.
The investigation continues and further charges are expected.
