Barrie man faces 31 charges relating to robbery spree

A Barrie man faces a total of 31 criminal charges relating to a robbery spree at convenience stories across the city, police report.
Since mid-January, the Barrie Police Service responded to five convenience store robberies where a lone male suspect armed with a weapon would enter the store, make a demand for money and then flee on foot once money and cigarettes were obtained.
In each of these occurrences, the suspect was described as black male with a slim to medium muscular build, who wore a camouflage style hoody or jacket, stylish running shoes and always had a balaclava or type of mask that covered his face.
On Saturday, July 20 at 9:04 p.m., police responded to another similar type robbery at the Hasty Mart Convenience Store at 307 Cundles Road East and arrested a male person who was located in the immediate area. Noting the similarities from these ongoing investigations, detectives from the Barrie Police Investigative Services determined that this person was likely responsible for the previous five robberies.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, which included the execution of a Criminal Code Search Warrant at a Barrie home last week, a 28-year-old resident of the city is now facing a total of 31 criminal charges, which include:
• Robbery with a Firearm (6 counts)
• Use Firearm During an Offence (6 counts)
• Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (6 counts)
• Disguise with Intent (6 counts)
• Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited (6 counts)
• Resist Peace Officer.
The accused has been remanded in custody pending a future court date.
