Barrie K9 dogs track suspect

Barrie police apprehended a man on Tuesday who had earlier escaped from the Beaver Creek Correctional Institution.
Mark Whyte, 37, had escaped from the minimum-security facility on Dec. 23, say police. Yesterday (Jan. 3), police responded to a report of a “fail-to-remain collision involving a stolen truck followed by several residential Break and Enter reports in north/central area of Barrie.”
The area was contained and the K9 unit called in to commence a track. The suspect was arrested without incident a short distance away.
Police say Whyte was found to be in possession of several stolen items. He is charged with eight counts of Break, Enter and Commit Theft, one count of Break and Enter with Intent, and four counts of Possession of Stolen Property.
He was held for a bail hearing, and the investigation handed over to the newly created Property Crimes Unit.
