Barrie couple’s kind deed backfires

An act of kindness turned sour for a Barrie couple after they were assaulted by a homeless acquaintance to whom they have given shelter, police say.
Barrie police responded to a city address in response to a call about an assault. It seems the male the couple had taken in to give him time to get on his feet had become intoxicated and had assaulted the couple, police say. When the couple got the ‘guest’ out of their residence, he threw a rock through the window of their vehicle.
Police responded and arrested a 25-year-old Barrie male, charging him with two counts of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Over the next few days the male called the victims repeatedly from Central North Correction Centre, contrary to a court order prohibiting him from doing so. Police contacted the jail and the male was moved to segregation unit and his telephone privileges were removed. He now faces two new charges of breach of recognizance. He remains in custody.
