Bar dustup leads to charges

Things went from bad to worse for a Barrie man when police added assault-a-peace-officer charge to a list of alleged offences.
On Sunday morning at a downtown bar the man, 22, became involved in an altercation and was detained by security until police arrived. Officers advised the male he was under arrest for assault and six counts of breaching his probation.
He was placed in a cruiser and transported to the police station. Upon arrival, police attempted to assist the male out of the back of the cruiser, at which time he lunged towards the officer and spit in his face, police allege.
The male was then led into the cell area where officers attempted to search him. He kicked at a second officer during this search.
The male was advised of the two further charges of assaulting a peace officer. He was held pending a bail hearing.
