Barrie man ‘brandished’ pistol: police

A reported pistol incident in the parking lot of the Bayfield Mall has led to weapons charges against a Barrie man.
Police report that Thursday night a Barrie couple, both in their 20s, were shopping at the mall. They had the impression an unknown male was following them, and left the immediate area.
While still in the mall, they became aware once again that the unknown male appeared to be following them. After being confronted, the male just walked away, say police.
As they were leaving the mall, near the parking area, the unknown male “drove up and exited his vehicle brandishing a pistol, which he pointed at the male’s head, stating, ‘this is my problem,’” police report.
“The female managed to calm the situation to the point where the suspect got into his vehicle and drove away.”
Police say that while driving away in the parking lot, “the couple heard a popping noise that both believed was a gunshot coming from the suspect’s vehicle.” A security officer also heard the “loud popping noise.”
Police responded about an hour later and located the 26-year-old suspect. He was arrested and charged with several weapons-related offences. He is currently in custody.
The weapon involved in this reported occurrence has not been located, say police. Anyone who may have this incident is asked to contact the communications sergeant at (705) 725-7025 or Crimestoppers.
