Severe weather moving east

Funnel clouds sighted

The danger of severe weather in the Barrie region has lessened, with Environment Canada now issuing a warning for the Peterborough and southern Peterborough County.
Reports were made earlier of a possible tornado striking parts of Midland, and of funnel clouds being seen in the area. Police are reporting damage to a trailer Park in Midland in the wake of the severe weather.
It’s also being reported that as many as eight people have been treated at Huronia General Hospital.
A tornado warning was issued by Environment Canada for Barrie, Orillia and the Penetanguishene area. The threat now seems to be moving east. Emergency Management Ontario had urged people in the area of the weather warning to get indoors.
A red alert cautions people in the targeted areas to stay inside, and for others outside not to enter the region. Residents are advised to remain alert.
