United Way celebrates record-breaking year

In what is being described as a close call, United Way Greater Simcoe County nonetheless came through with a record-breaking 2012 fundraising total.
The agency surpassed its campaign goal, raising $1.836 millon.
“This year was a nail-biter,” said CEO Alison Pickard after the agency’s annual Celebration & Spirit Awards event at Tangle Creek Golf Club, last Thursday. “But our campaign team was diligent and the generosity of our community was, as always, inspiring. We’re delighted with the result.”
Among the corporate fundraisers, the LCBO again led the way, bringing in $129,000. Its efforts were rewarded with a trophy for the Outstanding Special Event Award, one of 18 Spirit Awards presented to Campaign 2012 supporters.
“The efforts of our corporate partners and their employees are key to the success of our campaign,” added Pickard, who says all money raised in Greater Simcoe County stays here, unless designated elsewhere by the donor. “We are a volunteer-driven organization with hundreds of dedicated people in Simcoe and Muskoka working to make their communities stronger, safer and healthier – and they are making a difference every day.”
