Santa’s return heralds start of season

The clock is counting down to Santa’s return to Barrie to ‘officially’ kick off the 2011 holiday season.
The jolly one adored in red will be riding his sleigh through the streets of our fair city, today (Nov. 19), with the Santa Claus parade scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. from the launching pad at the intersection of Lakeshore and Tiffin.
From there it will wind north on Lakeshore, up past the Rotary Club of Barrie’s Festival of Trees, at Centennial Park, before turning west on Victoria Street.
The parade then moves north on Bradford Street, before turning east on Dunlop Street and moving through the downtown.
This year the parade is being held in conjunction with the annual Tree Lighting ceremony at Memorial Square.
The parade ends at Poyntz Street, after which Santa will head over to Memorial Square to spend some time with kids of all ages.
