Robinson makes it official

It’s a draft Jennifer campaign no longer. Now, it’s an elect Jennifer drive as the former skating champion officially joined the race in Ward 8.
Robinson, six-time Canadian women’s figure skating champion and a former Olympian, filed her nomination papers to become a candidate in the Oct. 25 election. Current councillor Jerry Moore is not running, and Robinson will be facing candidates Don MacNeil and John Webb.
A Facebook site had been created as a ‘draft jennifer’ forum. That page has been changed to an ‘elect Jennifer’ site.
Ward 8 takes in a sizeable chunk of Barrie, from the shores of Kempenfelt Bay to the city’s southern limits. It’s home to the Allandale Recreation Centre, site of the Mariposa School of Skating, as well as the Allandale Train Station, now under reconstruction and the future site of the city’s second GO Train station.
The development of the historic station was a source of contentious local debate, as a proposal to build a YMCA on the site was hotly contested. The YMCA subsequently backed out of the development, despite its proposal winning the backing of city council.
