Tryout dates for Premier Soccer Institute announced
The Premier Soccer Institute (PSI) has exciting development news to share. Recently, coaches for the English Premier League’s Stoke City were in Barrie for an identification camp, hosted by PSI.
Led by Stoke City coach Aaron Duce, the camp was designed to identify players qualified to participate in a Stoke City North American Camp. The initiative heralds a significant opportunity for local soccer talent. Players who are selected from the PSI Barrie Camp will participate in the Stoke City camp, and further, players who do well in the North American Camp may be on their way to Stoke City for trials.
The camp was open to members of PSI, and further Stoke City opportunities are scheduled for future dates, so stay tuned.
At the camp, Stoke City staff put the players through unique training used at the EPL team, much to the benefit of participating players. The unique development opportunity benefits all players, including those not chosen at this time to move forward.
In other PSI news:
PSI is holding tryouts to identify potential candidates for its high-performance program, players who want to achieve higher levels in their game, whether the goal is to play nationally, professionally, for a scholarship, or to maximize their individual skill level.
At the end of the tryout, players will be informed of their status. If the players appreciate the training methods used, and see potential in them, it will be a win-win situation, and the player will be offered a position within the PSI structure.
New players will join current PSI members to determine skill levels and development needs. Tryouts cost $20 a player, cash only please, with proceeds going to Simcoe Hospice Barrie. Scheduled for Monday, September 19 and Friday, September 23, it’s in the best interest of players to attend both tryout sessions to allow PSI staff to make an accurate assessment.
Players will be required to sign a waiver before participating in tryouts, which will be held at the Mapleview Community Church, 300 Mapleview Drive West, both dates, 5:30-6:45 p.m. for U9-U14 boys, and U13-U14 girls, and 6:30-8:00 p.m. for U15-U18 boys and girls.
