Start 2012 with mayor’s brunch/levee

Some of Barrie’s finest chefs to serve taste sensations for event in aid of the United Way of Greater Simcoe County

The Rotunda at Barrie City Hall will be the place to be when Mayor Jeff Lehman presents his inaugural New Year’s Day Brunch & Levee, in support of the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.
The brunch will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the levee taking place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 1, 2012. There will be two brunch sittings – 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Chefs from some of Barrie’s finest restaurants are lending their culinary skills to this special affair, so those lucky enough to be in attendance will experience a taste sensation sure to kick off the New Year in style. Preparing the buffet menu are:
• Scott Connor from the Local Gastro Pub: Chef Scott has worked at restaurants in cities around the globe, seeking new and creative dishes for his menus. Visit the Local at 37 Dunlop Street, West.
• Marco Ormonde from The North Restaurant: Born in Terceira, Portugal, Marco has been cooking since he was a child. Marco realized his love for the culinary arts while helping his grandmother cater parties. When he immigrated to Canada in 1986, he brought along his love of cuisine. Visit the North Restaurant at 66 Dunlop Street, West.
• Yar and Nur Mohammad from Tara Authentic Indian Cuisine: Chef brothers Yar and Nur Mohammad’s culinary prowess makes Tara a most unique palatal experience. Visit Tara at 128 Dunlop Street, East.
• Rita Fuda from The Italian Bakery: Rita Fuda offers a wide variety of fresh baked goods, deli meats and cheeses, as well as a buffet filled with delectable Italian foods. The bakery can be found at 200 Wellington Avenue, West.
Olga’s Crêperie: Olga Walton cooks up on-the-spot fine crêpes for all cravings. Try her hearty breakfast crêpe which can include egg, ham, cheese, onion and tomato. Or for a sweet tooth, there’s always chocolate or fruit of the season with real whipped cream crêpes. Visit Olga on Saturdays at The Barrie Farmer’s Market, Barrie City Hall.
Catering by Rose is supplying cutlery, plates, linen, etc.
Big Chris BBQ Smokehouse is providing bar service, with wine, beer and Mimosa (a champagne punch). Drink tickets sold separately, $10 for two drinks.
Tickets for the New Year’s Day brunch are $25.00, while the levee – serving coffee and tea – is freely open to the public.
