Haz-mat unit remains at St. Joe’s

Emergency crews remain at St. Joseph’s High School investigating a suspicious chemical that, reportedly, caused some students to suffer throat and eye discomfort, as well as nausea.
The Barrie Fire and Emergency Service’s hazardous materials unit remains on the scene. Initially, students complaining of discomfort were examined by paramedics on site. As a precaution, 10 students have reportedly been sent to Royal Victoria Hospital for further observation.
The school will be sending the other students home after they have been screened by emergency personnel at the school.
Parents are being asked to pick their children up at Barrie Free Methodist Church (located across the road from the school), where they are being transported to. Parents are asked not to come into the school.
