Feds unite in homelessness battle

The struggle against homelessness in the region got a boost last week when MP Patrick Brown announced $3.2 million in federal funding for the United Way of Greater Simcoe County.
The funds will be spread over a number of programs and communities in the region, including Barrie. Part of the government’s strategy to combat homelessness, 60 communities in the region will benefit from the funding.
Since the program’s inception in 2008, more than $1.9 billion has been allocated to homelessness programs. The program has been extended till 2014, and an extra $135 million committed.
