City hires new planning director

The City of Barrie has a new director of planning. Stephen Naylor joins the municipal team after serving as the direct of current planning services for Brantford.
“We are very pleased to have Stephen come on board. This is an exciting time for the City of Barrie with many planning and growth initiatives underway, and Stephen’s experience and leadership will play a key role. Stephen has the appropriate combination of leadership, experience, and visionary skills that will lead this department to even greater successes,” says Richard Forward, general manager, infrastructure, development and culture.
In Brantford Naylor oversaw planning matters, including Official Plan applications, zoning amendments, site plan approvals, preparation for Ontario Municipal Board hearings, and other municipal concerns. Prior experience in the planning field includes being the manager of planning at the Town of New Tecumseth, planner with the town of Alliston, and various related positions in the private sector.
The city’s new planning director is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, and is as Registered Professional Planner with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute. He has his Masters in environmental studies from York University.
Naylor’s first official day on the job is March 21.
