Canada’s Trews headline Countdown

The Trews, one of Canada’s top rock acts, are coming to Barrie to help kick of the New Year. The band will headline Barrie’s 15th annual Downtown Countdown.
The band has released four studio albums, have honed their act in more than 800 concerts, and have been nominated for five Juno Awards. Singles include ‘Not Ready to Go,’ ‘Tired of Waiting,’ ‘So She’s Leaving,’ ‘Hold Me In Your Arms,’ and ‘Highway of Heroes.’ They have opened for some of the biggest acts on the planet, including Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones, as well as Canada’s own Tragically Hip.
But the night before the advent of 2013 features more than one of Canada’s top music acts – there is fun and frivolity for the whole family.
Splash ‘n Boots, one of the country’s top children’s’ acts and a Barrie favourite, will perform during the Countdown. Veterans of more than 1,200 shows around the globe and regulars on the family channel Treehouse, they have just released their sixth album, ‘Coconuts don’t fall far from the tree.’
Other acts scheduled to appear are Poor Young Things and For the Birds, the former having toured with The Trews, and the latter a local band chosen to perform after more than 40 submissions were received for a City-sponsored contest to play live on the big stage, New Year’s Eve.
The night includes skating at the Circle at the Centre, horse-drawn wagon rides, and face painting – all beginning at 7 p.m. Two fireworks displays will light up the sky – one at 7:45 p.m. following Splash ‘n Boots and the second at midnight to ring in 2013. For more information, click here.
