Canada Day weekend in Barrie features fireworks and Promenade Days

What goes well with Canada Day in Barrie? An annual downtown shopping and music festival that sees the city core closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian mall.
The City is throwing a Canada Day party in conjunction with downtown’s Promenade Days. The event features family activities and vendors in Heritage Park as well as live entertainment, funded in part by the federal government and Tim Hortons.
The Promenade Days Stage will be headlined by Canadian Country Music star Dan Davidson. Audiences will enjoy powerful performances from award-winning Indigenous hip‐hop artist Plex, Canadian singer-songwriters Aleah Baillargeon and Joelle, and Barrie’s emerging musicians.
There will also be a birthday cake cut by local dignitaries and a variety of activities in Heritage Park. Local fitness entrepreneurs will offer a series of free classes and demonstrations throughout the day including aerial arts, Zumba and boot camp. There will also be free face painting provided by TELUS, Canadian wildlife displays, inflatables, vendors and games from 1 to 9 p.m.
New this year, attendees can play on a pop-up park at the bottom of Owen Street. The City has partnered with the Downtown Barrie BIA, Landscape Ontario, the National Sod Growers Association and Come Alive Outside to present the Green Street Challenge, celebrating the importance of outdoor play. The park will feature giant chess, giant Jenga, giant checkers, parachute games and scheduled recreation activities on Saturday and Sunday.
Capping off the night on Sunday, the City will present a spectacular fireworks show over Kempenfelt Bay starting at 10 p.m.  In case of inclement weather, fireworks will be held Monday, July 2.
The Canada Day weekend kicks off with the Meridian Place Grand Opening, Friday, June 29 at 5 p.m. Hosted by the Downtown Barrie BIA and the City of Barrie, the event will feature public tours of the new space and live music from Sonic Coalition and the Fred Grant Squares.
The celebrations continue with Promenade Days, happening June 30 to July 2 in downtown Barrie. Promenade Days is presented by the Downtown Barrie BIA and features vendors, street patios, family activities, and entertainment along Dunlop Street. For more information about the Canada Day celebrations, including full entertainment schedule, visit
