Buskers sought for downtown core

Street performers are wanted for a new program aimed at entertaining downtown patrons and perhaps launching musical careers.
The City and Downtown Barrie (BIA) are looking for local musicians to participate in the new Emerging Musicians Program and perform in various locations in the downtown core throughout the summer. The program is an evolution of the former Street Performers Program and capitalizes on its successful record in launching musical careers.
“Barrie has a lot of home-grown musical talent and the Emerging Musicians Program aims to showcase that talent and help local musicians launch their careers while creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere in downtown Barrie,” said Amanda Dyke, Cultural Development Officer.
Up to 10 musicians, chosen by a panel of jurors, will be issued annual permits to perform during scheduled shifts on evenings and weekends from June to September. Live auditions will take place Wednesday, May 16 from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Five Points Theatre, presented by Pratt Homes & Development. Members of the public are welcome to attend and cheer on their favourite musicians.
To book an audition, musicians are asked to upload a video of themselves performing one full song to YouTube and complete an online submission form by Sunday, May 13. Creative Economy staff will then follow up to confirm the audition time. Musicians are also encouraged to share their videos on social media using the hashtag #CreativeBarrie to promote their participation and build support leading up to the live auditions.
Full program details and the online submission form are available at www.barrie.ca/EmergingMusicians.
