Barrie readies for annual ‘celebrate’ fest

If it’s summer in the city then it’s time for Celebrate Barrie, the yearly feel-good community fest that adds to the bloom of Barrie’s rose.
And everyone is invited to enjoy the festivities this Saturday, June 2, on the city’s waterfront at Centennial Park.
“Celebrate Barrie will be an incredible experience for families to get outside and enjoy all of the beautiful things that Barrie has to offer,” says Arin Donnelly, community events programmer.
“Celebrate Barrie will allow residents to relax and reconnect with their city while participating in a variety of free, fun activities.”
The fest kicks into gear at 10 a.m., running to 5 p.m. Organizers have arranged for a plethora of activities provided by more than 50 community groups. The fun also feature inflatables for the kids, games, snakes and reptiles, a Town Crier contest, a petting zoo, a rock-climbing wall, two stages where local musical talent will perform, and more.
The night before (Friday), starting at 7 p.m., the Barrie Youth Battle of the Bands rocks the stage as young local talent vie to be named the best band in Barrie. The concert is scheduled for the Star Stage at Centennial Beach.
Wrapping up the fest on Saturday is a movie night under the stars, provided in partnership with the Barrie Film Festival. On the big screen this year is the feature film, ‘The Muppets,’ with credits ready to roll around dusk, which this time of year arrives about 9:15 p.m.
