Barrie police lay assault charges

A man is behind bars awaiting a bail hearing after being charged with assaulting his former girlfriend and her friend.
On Saturday night to Sunday morning the male attended the apartment of his ex-girlfriend, who had her girlfriend over visiting. After consuming numerous drinks, the accused started assaulting the victim, repeatedly, police say.
The victim’s girlfriend tried to intervene but was reportedly also assaulted by the male. The male and the victim continued to argue and yell. The noise woke up a neighbour who threatened to call the police. The accused then fled the residence.
Later, the victim and her girlfriend attended the Barrie police station to report what had occurred. They did not require medical attention.
The accused was later located at his residence and arrested. He was also wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court for an impaired driving charge. The male, 28, was charged with one count of domestic assault, assault and fail to appear in court. He will be appearing for the original impaired-driving charges.
