Barrie gains industrial jobs

A plastics manufacturer is setting up shop in Barrie this summer, bringing at least 30 jobs with them.
The company, R&M Plastic Products Ltd., provides custom profile extrusion and injection molding servicing to businesses, including the telecom and utilities markets. Currently based in Brampton, the company plans to relocate to 282 King Street in the Mapleview Industrial Park.
Barrie’s strategy and economic development office has been in dialogue with the company since last October, when the manufacturer began looking for a new location.
“After considering a number of different communities we decided that Barrie provided the best business location with access to key transportation routes and quality of life for our family and employees,” Bob Ritchie president, and second-generation owner of the company, said.

Mayor Jeff Lehman

“We’re very excited for our move to Barrie and look forward to working with the City and becoming active members of Barrie’s business community.”
Mayor Jeff Lehman says he looks forward to welcoming some of the company’s current employees to Barrie.
“On behalf of the City of Barrie, I am delighted to welcome R&M Plastic Products. This exciting company is bringing new industrial jobs to our city and is an industry leader in the use of green technologies in their production processes. I am very pleased that they have chosen Barrie and we look forward to assisting them in setting up shop and growing their business.”
The company plans to add to its staffing, as it prepares to move. It now employs about 30 people. That number usually increases to 40 in the summer before settling back to 25 for the winter.
