Nominations for individuals who contributed to the city’s arts and cultural life close Friday
Residents who contribute to Barrie’s arts and cultural life can be recognized for their efforts through the 2010 Barrie Arts Award.
Nominations are now open, and will remain so until Friday, Oct. 22, 4:30 p.m. This year, the program features a number of new areas of celebration, including the introduction of the first Poet Laureate.
The position will “be nominated by the people to serve as a literary ambassador and champion for poetry, language and the arts,” according to the City of Barrie press release. “The Poet Laureate will create a unique and artistic legacy that through their public readings will enhance civic and community events.”
Other categories are: contribution to the community, emerging artist, collaboration award, most promising youth, excellence in the arts.
