Trustees nix closing of Catholic schools

The board of trustees of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board have decided not to close any of the schools within the North Barrie Pupil Accommodation Review area.
Schools that had been under review included Monsignor Clair, Sister Catherine Donnelly, The Good Shepherd, St. Monica’s, St. Marguerite d’Youville, and St. Mary’s. Instead of closing one of the schools, the board will use surplus space on the second floor of Monsignor Clair Catholic School to accommodate central board staff, who will move from the current Academic Services facility on Bell Farm Road.
“We are satisfied with the outcome of the review,” said board chair Clayton Ferguson. “We believe the solution of locating some of the central board staff into Monsignor Clair Catholic School is the best one for all the Catholic school communities involved in this review. As we move forward, trustees will continue to monitor the enrolment trends in this area. I want to thank all of the staff, families and other community members who have contributed to this review.”
It’s anticipate the move will occur in 2014.
