Catholic board plans ‘Week in a Glance’ emails to keep parents/guardians update on school closings

Brian Beal, director of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board sent parents and guardians the following email updating them on coming labour disruptions.

Brian Beal is education director of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.

You have probably heard by now that the four major education unions in Ontario have announced coordinated strike action for next Friday, Feb. 21. This means that all SMCDSB elementary and secondary schools will be closed on that day.
One of the main priorities for our board throughout this provincial labour situation is to provide our families with timely and clear communication. We certainly appreciate that there is competing and conflicting information circulating throughout the media and social media. To help alleviate confusion, we will be issuing a “Week at a Glance” communique on Sunday evenings.
The Sunday timing is important, since our union groups are required to provide us with five days notice of any escalating labour action, which includes strike days. That means that by Sunday evening we will have a good idea of how the week ahead should unfold from a labour disruption perspective in our schools. Of course we will continue to provide additional updates as required via email and on the board website/social media channels.
Please expect an update from me this Sunday and in the meantime, I hope you make plans to enjoy this upcoming Family Day long-weekend. Perhaps take the time to connect with someone with whom you haven’t spoken to in awhile and reflect upon the important role our family and friends play in our lives.
