Graffiti artists invited to paint the park

Aspiring graffiti artists of all ages are encouraged to come down to the Queen’s Park Skateboard Park for the annual Paint the Park event, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Supervised by the city’s Young People Centre’s staff, the day is structured to foster a positive and creative environment at the skateboard park through the artful renderings of participants, and also to give the park a spray of renewal.
The event is open to anyone wishing to wield a spray can. Artists can reserve their painting space on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at 9:30 a.m. If younger than 16, a parent or guardian is required to sign the registration form.
Cost is $10 a spot, with a limit of two people per space. A limited amount of spray paint is provided with the fee, but sprayers who wish to indulge their artistic flair might want to bring their own supplies.
Sponsors of the event are: Barrie Paintball, Allandale Decorating Centre, B101, Zehrs, YMCA Youth Volunteers, Barbie Austin Photography, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Beauty Supply Outlet and Extreme Tan. Proceeds go to the centre’s free drop-in program, providing young people with an active lifestyle through recreation and leisure.
