Finger Eleven to headline Countdown

Barrie and area residents are invited to ring in the New Year with the 17th annual Downtown Countdown, featuring Finger Eleven as the main act.
The Canadian band will headline an all-Canadian lineup. Now recording their sixth album, Finger Eleven has celebrated success in both Canada and the U.S. with hits including One Thing and Paralyzer. In 2008, they won Rock Album of the Year at the Juno Awards, and are sure to deliver an amazing live show that will rock the Downtown Countdown stage.
The show will also feature entertainment for the younger crowd with two-time Juno Award winner, Fred Penner. With a career spanning 25 years, Penner has established himself as a fundamental part of the family entertainment scene and childhood in North America. This four-time recipient of the Parents’ Choice Award has shared his positive philosophy to make a difference through CDs, videos, books, and television, including 12 seasons of the hit CBC show ‘Fred Penner’s Place.’
The line-up will also include emerging talent selected from more than 20 submissions after the City of Barrie invited local acts to submit for the opportunity to perform on the Downtown Countdown stage in front of a hometown crowd. The Alpacas, a four-piece rock band from Barrie, will create good time vibes and are sure to entertain.
In addition, this free celebration outside City Hall in downtown Barrie will include skating on the Circle at the Centre, horse-drawn wagon rides, fire performers, an indoor family fun zone, and fireworks all beginning at 7 p.m.
