Feds come up with $35,000 for TIFT

Barrie’s Talk is Free Theatre is getting $35,000 from the federal government for the ‘Creative Trust Barrie’ project, MP Patrick Brown announced Tuesday.
The funds will allow the theatre to partner with Theatre by the Bay and the Barrie Film Festival to improve planning and financial skills to find new and innovative sources of revenue. The funding is provided through the federal government’s Strategic Initiatives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund.
“A theatre is a gathering place that defines our communities. We are proud to support this initiative with our partners: Talk is Free Theatre, Theatre by the Bay, and the Barrie Film Festival,” says Brown in a release.
Since 2010, the funding has assisted 46 partnership-based projects, for a total investment of more than $12 million.
“On behalf of my colleagues at Theatre by the Bay and the Barrie Film Festival we are delighted to be awarded this funding. We look forward to sharing the results of our innovative project with the broader community,” says Arkady Spivak, TIFT founder and artistic director.
