Barrie arts awards recognize local talent

Nominations for the annual Barrie Arts Awards are open, with a new category designed to recognize a local business that has shown itself a friend of the arts.
The City of Barrie arts awards were created to showcase the talents of local artists, and those involved in the promotion of the arts. Residents are encouraged to nominate Barrie’s best talent, given them the recognition they deserve.
Categories are: Excellence in the Arts; Contribution to the Community; Emerging Artist; Most Promising Youth; Business Award.
The award for an arts-contributing business can be given to a local enterprise “that has consistently and significantly supported the arts through either financial and/or in-kind means. This award may be granted to a business that has made a concerted effort to build capacity in the arts,” according to a City release.
Nominations close on Oct. 28, with the awards gala scheduled for Tues., Nov. 29 at the Mady Centre for the Performing Arts, Barrie’s downtown community theatre. Download nomination forms here. For details on sponsoring the program, click here.
