Andrea Martin brings solo show to Barrie

Comedian Andrea Martin is bringing her acclaimed one-woman show to Barrie. Final Days! Everything Must Go!!! will be in town Thursday, May 26 for a performance at Georgian Theatre.
The performance is a special fundraiser for Talk is Free Theatre (TIFT), and coincides with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres’ (PACT) conference that will bring almost 200 artistic directors and general managers to the city. (The presence of the conference had been thrown into doubt after council deferred a request for $10,000 to assist with expenses. Council had originally wanted the cultural grants committee to review the request, but council, through a special motion, approved a $5,000 grant. For more on the conference see this City Scene Barrie story).
Martin first rose to national fame as a member of the Second City comedy troupe that, in the early 80s, included a successful television run as SCTV, featuring Martin and fellow cast members John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis, Martin Short, Dave Thomas, and others.
Martin’s characters included Edith Prickley, Pirini Scleroso and many others (all of whom will make an appearance in the Barrie performance). In addition to her television career, Martin is a Tony Award winning actor with many Broadway credits, most recently in Exit the King, starring opposite Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon. Her most recognized film credit is Aunt Voula in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Her Barrie performance replaces a production of Billboard, postponed to next season.
“I’m extremely happy that Ms. Martin has agreed to come to Barrie with her show as a fundraiser for us,” said TIFY artistic producer Arkady Spivak. “To think that a ‘little theatre that could’ is able to attract the support of such a talent is both humbling and very encouraging.”
Tickets to Martin’s performance are $45 and $30 plus HST. VIP tickets are available at $100 plus HST, which include priority seating and a post-show reception. Group packages are also available.
