The 7th Annual Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Heritage Park, and this year organizers are hoping to raise $30,000 to benefit the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie.
It’s said that to understand another’s reality, one has to first walk in their shoes. That’s what organizers are asking of local men, women and children. Walk A Mile in Her Shoes asks participants to walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes.
“It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about,” say organizers.
“We need your help to reach our $30,000 goal this year! Stiletto or pump, flat or sling back, flip flops or decorate your own shoes walk-a-mile style — you decide. All that matters is that you come with your game face on, ready to strut your stuff for the women in your life.
“Whether you’re walking as an individual, or register as a team – this is a fun day and a great opportunity to show support for an important cause. Together we can raise awareness and help end violence against women and children.”
The top youth team will win passes for Tree Top Trekking, a basket of goodies from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Sugar City Cupcakes. Walkers who raise $200 will receive a free commemorative T-Shirt, and T-Shirts will also be available for purchase at the event for $20. The top fundraiser will earn a Napoleon grill, valued at more than $700.
