Local teacher elected chair of Council for the Ontario College of Teachers

A teacher with the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) was recently elected chair of Council for the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
Nicole van Woudenberg has been a teacher since 1998; most recently at the board she held the position of Special Education Coordinator, working to support and promote inclusive education for all students in the board.
“I can’t think of a better person to represent the Ontario College of Teachers in this important role,” Carol Corriveau-Truchon, SMCDSB chair, is quoted saying. “Nicole is a consummate professional who represents the teaching vocation with integrity, compassion and dedication. I know she will make our Board incredibly proud as she fulfills the duties of this role.”
The new chair will remain in the elected position for a three-year term and then return to the SMCDSB in September of 2021. In her role as chair of the eighth College Council, she will play a significant role in regulating the teaching profession and fulfilling the legislated mandate of the OCT.
“As I embark on this new leadership opportunity as the Ontario College of Teachers eighth Council Chair, I look fondly on my collegial relationships with my Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board family,” van Woudenberg is quoted saying. “I am proud of the dedicated educators who are committed to authentic inclusion to reach every student, especially those with special education needs and I am grateful for the support I have received from my colleagues at the Board.”
